Lights and Wires

Probably the origins of the Hidden Series were in the Lights and Wires series from 2003. I was doing the same thing, though earlier - taking a few compositional elements, a limited visual vocabulary, and see what arrangements I could make. Electrical lines and traffic lights sliced up the sky and called attention to themselves, but they offered themselves as a pure compositional element, not overloaded with meaning. I anthropomorphized the figures and played with the ideas of what they might be doing, an inspiration after lots of time spent looking at Morandi, who infused his bottles and jars with such personality and relational qualities.
